A standing frontal studio portrait of a uniformed man with large side whiskers. His cap is on a low ornamental table on the left and he holds the handle of a sword in his left hand
Lieutenant Leonard died at Camp Te Papa, Tauranga on 4 August 1864. The photograph, probably taken in Britain before he came to New Zealand, shows him while he was an officer in the 65th Regiment. He transferred to the 2nd Battalion, 18th (Royal Irish) Regiment on 8 January 1864.
