Description

Shows a small Gough Whitlam holding a sheet marked "Nuclear free zone". At his side is a man with a lapel button marked "Woomera Rocket Club". The two men are at one end of a large round table marked "Pacific" with maps of Australia and New Zealand at their end. Opposite them is the map of the U. S. A. and a giant-sized U.S. general, wearing dark glasses, and clutching rocket launchers, nuclear-powered ships, planes etc. All of the weapons are pointing in the direction of the South Pacific. The implication is that New Zealand and Australia are too small to argue with their enormous and powerful United States neighbour on nuclear issues.

Exhibited in 'Public Lives - New Zealand's Premiers and Prime Ministers 1856-2003 (Exhibition)', 2003.
