Description

Thomas Ritchie (1844?-1934), farmer, runholder, trader and shipping agent of Chatham Islands, photographed ca 1870s by an unknown photographer. He is wearing a korowai (Maori tag cloak) and is holding a patu. A moko has been applied to his face with paint, and he has two feathers (possibly painted on to the original print) in his hair.

Information used to date and describe image taken from inscription from print housed at PAColl-3957-1.
