Looks over houses in the suburb of Hillcrest, Hamilton. Shows one storey, dwellings constructed of either wood or brick, with lawns at front and back. A vegetable garden, rotating washing line, and garden shed (or outdoor toilet?) is in the foreground. Photograph taken by Alan Sayers circa May 1955.
Original caption reads: "Suburban expansion. Fine new homes dot Hillcrest, one of Hamilton's new suburbs which have added one-third to the city's 6,182 acres in recent years. Beyond these suburbs are stretches of open country that are even now marked in red as "residential" and "industrial" on town planning maps in the Hamilton City Council offices."
