- Description
Photograph shows William and Jane Tonks standing in front of their house at 270 Cuba Street, which a Tonks family historian believes was taken about 1869, the house having been constructed about 1862. The house is still standing although the bay window has been replaced and much of the verandah decoration removed.
William and Jane Tonks (nee Ingram) arrived in Wellington on the "Birman" in 1842 and settled in the upper Cuba Street area near what is now Tonks Avenue.
