Captain Samuel Wallis' ship the Dolphin, a rowboat and a group of six Society Island canoes with sails shown in the water against a background of a low atoll with coconut palms
Queen Charlotte's Island is Nukutavake or Nukulavalu a southern atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago, visited by Wallis on 10 June 1767. It is wrongly identified as Egmont Island on the back.

Related works: The National Library of Australia holds a very similar drawing of Queen Charlotte Island titled 'Whitsunday Island', also apparently misidentified. Whitsunday Island (Pinaki) is not far from Queen Charlotte Island and similar in appearance
The artist Samuel Wallis was Captain of the ship 'Dolphin' and the first European to encounter the Tuamotu Archipelago and the Society Islands, now French Polynesia, in 1767.
