- Description
As an eleven year old boy, George emigrated with his family to Dunedin in 1879. The Lizzie Bell left Gravesend 10 July 1879 and arrived at Port Chalmers 15 Oct 1879. The diary appears to have been written jointly by George and his father John; when one was not well the other would take over. Diary gives an interesting account of voyage from an adult and child view point. It consists of brief, descriptive daily entries covering the period 1 July to 16 Oct 1879.
