Description

Looking along Queen Street, Waiuku in 1911. On the left is a building advertising Wallace & Coy - grocers and general merchants. Outside Wallace & Coy are two horse drawn carts. People are gathered at the furthest away end of the street. A string of flags, two of them checkered, hangs over the street. In the distance a New Zealand flag can also be seen. Other Titles - Photographer's title is \"Mine Street, Waiuku\" however the view is of Queen Stree, known at that time as Main Street.

A researcher has suggested that the occasion was the visit of the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward. Sir Joseph visited the town briefly 1 February 1911.
