Estate papers of W F Hansen and his father Anders. These include correspondence, diaries, autograph books, insurance papers, accounts, property papers, papers re British & Continental Film Company Ltd, 1920s. The diaries of Elizabeth Hansen, 1928-1932, 1954-1959, 1962, 1964, contain brief daily entries describing her domestic activities, weather conditions, involvement in community work and the Methodist Church. The early diaries were kept while the Hansens were in Featherston (the period immediately following their marriage). From 1954, after Fred Hansen died, Elizabeth lived at Masterton. Included in some of the diaries are newspaper clippings which report on church and community affairs.
Contains letters by Anne Hansen aboard the `Rangitata', in England and Ireland to Fred and Lizzie Hansen in Masterton, New Zealand. Anne describes her daily life and travel and discusses family matters. Also contains a letter from Lena Cook (nee Hansen) while on holiday in Melbourne and a letter from an ex-soldier Elyabill Harrold to Fred Hansen following Fred's return from World War One.

William Frederick Hansen's father, Anders Hansen was a lighthouse keeper. Fred Hansen was born at Cape Saunders, Westport. He was a tunneller in World War One. Elizabeth and Fred Hansen lived at Featherston and later moved to Masterton where Fred died in 1953. Mrs Eileen Tiller (née Hansen) is the niece of Mrs and Mrs Hansen.

Description: Two diaries and an address book relating to William Frederick Hansen. '1917 Star Pocket Diary' records Hansen's activities on service in France and England between January and December 1917. Diary was likely compiled by his sister, Lena Cook, based on letters and telegrams from Hansen. Address book belonged to Hansen and was used during his time as a soldier. It includes some diary entries for 1917. The 1926 diary contains entries for the period 17 March to 28 April. Mainly records details about chopping and transporting wood, including wood type, quantities, who Hansen worked with, and who they delivered to. Fred Hansen diaries

Description: Collection comprises 20 personal diaries relating to Hansen's work as a goldminer (aged 17), soldier (World War One) and quarryman. Daily diary entires noting place of work and weather. Also includes interesting events as they occur like earthquakes, death of a workmate, comet sighting and fishing. Includes 1916 diary. William Hansen trained at the Narrow Neck Military Camp in Takapuna. Served with New Zealand Engineers Tunnelling Company, 2nd Reinforcements. 5 diaries in the Springvale exercise book style are vehicle logs but also include details of journeys taken. Donor's notes included in collection. Quantity: 1 box(es). Processing information: These diaries were deposited at the Library with photographic material. The diaries were separated from the photographic material and described separately as was the practice at the time.
