Shows a hump-backed whale spouting, and thumping its tail on the water. In the two rowboats at the right are men with harpoons. The foreground barrel floats suggest that the whale is caught in nets.
The title may refer to the "dubbing" sound of the tail beating the water. (See Oxford English dictionary)
