This sketch drawn by Selwyn in January 1844 shows the schooner 'Perserverance', owned by Tuhawaiki (also known as Bloody Jack) from Ruapuke Island, at anchor is Sealer's Bay on Codfish Island (Whenua Hou).The coastline shown in the far background is the Ruggedy Range on Stewart Island's west coast.
