No 36, an N class steam locomotive, 2-6-2 type with four men. Photograph taken by Albert Percy Godber.
N class NZR 36, was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia, went into service in November 1885, and was written off in March 1929. See "Register of New Zealand Railways steam locomotives, 1863-1971" by W G Lloyd, and "Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives" by A N Palmer & W W Stewart.
