Description

Comprises:

(a) Maori notes in Smith's hand on events and places in the Wairarapa, including Nga haupu kohatu i Whatarangi (the stone heaps at Whatarangi), Ko Pounui (re Pounui lake), Te Whawhai ki Te Tatara, and Te heke a Ngati Kahungunu ki Wairarapa (the migration of Ngati Kahungunu to Wairarapa).

(b) Maori notes by Iraia Te Whaiti (13 leaves) including whakapapa from Te Hiha; list of canoes taken by Te Rerewa; the whakapapa of Hinewaka. Also a letter from Iraia Te Whaiti, chairman of the marae committee to the chairman of the Scenic Preservation Society (1 leaf), giving whakapapa.

(c) A letter in several different hands from Herepohio (or Henare Pohio) to Tunuiarangi, 1 Jun 1904, concerning the fighting pas of Heipipi and Kaimata near Petane (see JPS v13 p154-155).

(e) Whakapapa and notes in Maori (5 leaves) (referred to in JPS v13 159-165).

(f) Maori notes concerning Rai-kau-moana's flight (2 leaves)(see JPS v13 p161, v15/2 p145-146).

(g) Notes in Maori (4 leaves) about different kinds of eels.
