Unidentified Maori man and woman seated in the porch of a Hawke's Bay meeting house, circa 1890s. Both wear kakahu (cloaks). Shows a whariki (flax floor mat), tukutuku (ornamental lattice weaving) panels and kowhaiwhai (rafter patterns). Photograph taken by Samuel Carnell.

Dated from Carnell's use of dry plate process and 6.5 x 4.75 inch format later in his career.
