The first scene shows a soldier holding American cigarettes and beer, with a doubtful look on his face. The second shows two soldiers, one Maori and one Pakeha, sitting on a box of shells, drinking N.Z. beer and rolling a cigarette of 'best N.Z. leaf', while listening to a radio broadcast. The news, however is not good - a Springboks win at rugby, the Minister of Finance, Harry Lake, says we have to cut spending, the South Africa - N.Z. rugby crisis looks serious, and Tom Shand is protecting the country while the soldiers are away.
