Photograph taken by an unidentified photographer, circa 1923. The event is likely to be the opening ceremony for the Weraroa Memorial Peace Gates commemorating World War Two, opened on 11 April 1923 in Levin. The man speaking from the truck bed is likely to be Mayor of Levin, Mr D.W. Matheson. The truck is decorated with fern fronds, and alongside is Prime Minister William Ferguson Massey (with moustache, holding papers). Rows of boy scouts are in the foreground.
