Customhouse Quay, Wellington, circa 1885, as seen looking west from the Railway Wharf. Shows the harbour in the foreground. The W & G Turnbull warehouses are second from the right, between Johnston and Waring Taylor Streets. Towards the left is the Post Office clock tower. Upland Farm House is just visible in the background (hill top, centre right). This area is now the suburb of Kelburn. Photograph taken by William Williams.
The post office clock tower shown here was destroyed by fire in 1887.
The W & G Turnbull warehouses were designed by Thomas Turnbull in 1877. A four-storey central building was added in 1886. (Information from back of file print)
