- Description
Gold battery known as 'Snowy River Battery' south of Waituta, West Coast. Photographed by Joseph Divis some time in the 1930s.
Gold in quartz form was carried by bucket line and tipped into a large bin in the building at the centre. The quartz was crushed by means of stampers. This battery closed down in 1939 and was rebuilt above Waiuta. (Information from Derek French 1968.)
