New Zealand World War 2 soldier in the Cassino area, Italy, fanning a brazier of charcoal to achieve glowing coals. Soldier unidentified. Photograph taken by George Kaye, circa 28 March 1944.

Caption on Defence Archive file print reads: "To fan the braziers of charcoal commonly used by men of the NZ Div in the Cassino area, it is usual to whirl them at asms length until a rich glow is obtained."
