Description

A reproduction of a photograph, showing Te Hauhau, a Maori chief or priest, seated at the entrance of a carved and painted wharenui. He is clad in formal Maori clothing with huia feathers in his hair and is holding a taiaha, point down, in front of him.

Image is reversed with printed photographers' number (3606) and title appearing back-to-front

Inscriptions: Recto - centre left - in pencil 'Not clear, carving and the chief quite dim, can it be made so that it can shew all in the picture. J. White, 17 July '89'. Also lower right in pencil: 'Mr White. Reverse and name please'.
