Photograph of the Speaker's chair, presented to the New Zealand Parliament by the British House of Commons in 1951. Shows the chair, made of English oak and upholstered in green English hide, placed on a carpet rug. Photograph taken circa 1940s or 1950s by the Topical Press Agency Ltd.

This chair replaced the ordinary arm chairs introduced by the first Labour Government in 1935. It was a gift from the British House of Commons, and was presented by a deputation of MPs from Britain. It was placed in position on the 21st of November 1951 (Source: Evening Post, 21 December 1951).
