Description

Central text panel of praise and welcome, topped by illuminated address, and with monogram of the Otago Coal Miners' Union at the bottom. Decorated mat inset with 6 scenes of coal mines at: Shag Point, Kaitangata (2), Walton Park, Lovells Flat, and Alexandra.

Date based on dates of Conciliation and Arbitration Act, Old Age Pensions Act (1898), State Coal Mines Act (1901). The Otago Coal Miner's Union was established ca 1903
