The curved bridge over Henui Stream, New Plymouth, with an armed soldier approaching by the road on the right, and another figure driving a carriage led by a pair of bullocks approaching on the left. Two buildings are on the skyline to the left.
Copied by Hamley from a watercolour by his superior officer, E. A. Williams. Compare Williams' 'Henui Bridge [June 1865], (A-210-005), which is almost identical, except that Williams shows soldiers crossing the bridge, and no figure with bullocks. The buildings on the skyline are also somewhat different. The Williams watercolour has been dated to June 1865 by historian R. I. M. Burdett
