Description

A New Zealand flag. Includes a note 'This attempt at a New Zealand flag was made by me to hand from our home in Belgium, Route du Village, Hermalle-sur-Argenteau Les Vise - on fete days. It was stored in Liege during the German occupation, but was hung out from no. 25, rue de l'Academie, Liege, on Armistice Day, 1918, when the Germans were leaving the city. Dora Wilcox'

Physical Description: Linen and silk flag, 880 x 1250 mm, with leather case, 262 x 223 x 40 mm

Provenance: Case is made by Alexander Turnbull's London binder, Zaehnsdorf, and includes his blind embossed crest. However it cannot have been given to him, since he died before Armistice Day, 1918.

Transfers: Flag removed from envelope and case for digitisation; decision was made to keep it housed flat. Moved to F-096. The casing remains in the Curios box..
