Description: Postcard shows a colour illustration of the tower, the fountain and the Kupe statue, by William Trethewey. The verso has a green rubber stamp indicating that the card was "posted at top of Centennial Tower", on 19 April 1940. It is addressed to Master Ray Hales of Richmal St, Waihi, from Aunty Bob & Aunty Etty. The statuary was later displayed at Wellington Railway Station, then taken in 1986 to Wellington Showgrounds and then to Te Papa. In 2000, it was placed on the Wellington waterfront on the harbour side of the Boatshed and Star Rowing Club. Quantity: 1 colour photo-mechanical print(s). Description: Album of photographs of early Wellington, circa 1880s to 1900s. One view shows the wreck of the "Oliver Lang" at Kaiwharawhara. Other views of the harbour show sailing ships, the SS Doric at Queens Wharf, the arrival of the RMS Aorangi, the small ship Manawatu in port, and the Cobar ferry. Away from the inner city and harbour there are three views of native bush with a stream running through, and one of the house under construction. The album is not full, with photographs only found on pages 8-15, and 19-21. The view of the Union Bank of Australia on the corner of Featherston Street and Lambton Quay shows Johnny Martin's fountain in the foreground. There are several views of inner Wellington, some from Bolton Street, with others showing Government House and Offices. The Chief Post Office is seen behind the wharf where the ship Manawatu is moored (p 14) This is the first of two albums which may have been given to the Misses Yamerton as birthday gifts at the same time, both having the same birthday greeting card, and both having a similar collection of photographs, though not all are the same. Description: Photographs of Wellington City and its environs, taken between 1974 and 1991 by Norm Zemanek. Subjects largely comprise notable buildings and landmarks, such as fountains. Transport also features with images of the old cable car, a Westpac rescue helicopter, and a number of ships included. Buildings shown are: the Bank of New Zealand under construction, the Beehive, the Federated Farmers building, the General Assembly Library, the House of Ladies (corner Boulcott and Willis Streets), the Kiwi Rock Cafe with the rear of a car protruding from its facade, the Majestic Towers, the Maritime Museum, the Michael Fowler Centre, the National Library of New Zealand, Old St Paul's, the Point Halswell Beacon (Lighthouse), the Public Trust Office, supports under the Shamrock Hotel during its shift, St Mary's (St Mary of the Angels), the State Insurance Office. Also included are views of wharf cranes showing parts of the city and Oriental Bay in the background; the amkons (large concrete blocks) at the south end of Wellington Airport, and the casting bed for the Ngauranga Gorge motorway flyover bridge. Other images show Frank Kitts Park and the 'Albatross' Fountain (also at night), the Oriental Bay (Carter) fountain, the NZI fountain, the plaster statue of Kupe being moved from Wellington Railway Station, the driving wheel at Evans Bay near the Patent Slip site (now known as Cog Park), Super Loops at the Wellington Exhibition, and the Bucket Tree near Tawa. Ships included: Esmeralda, Chilean tall ship; the NZ frigates Canterbury, Wellington, Taranaki and Otago in Wellington Harbour; Crystal Harmony cruise ship; Queen Elizabth II; a Polish tall training ship.
