Description: Comprises complete set of the company's printed annual reports detailing its construction and operating activities. Includes handwritten note of important dates at front, newspaper clippings, notices of meetings, prospectuses, maps and a copy of the Act effecting the purchase of the company. Source of title - Cover title Company founded in Jan 1881 by Wellington Chamber of Commerce to enable work to re-commence on the Wellington-Johnsonville railway line, begun by government in 1879 but stopped in 1880. The line was completed as far as Longburn, near Palmerston North, and officially opened on 1 Dec 1886. The government exercised its option and nationalised the line, buying the company's assets for £900,000, in 1908. Quantity: 1 volume(s). 0.06 Linear Metres. Description: Two ticket pads, partially used, of tickets to be issued on the Hutt Valley - Paraparaumu line, on 1 December 2003, the day of the world premiere in Wellington, of "Return of the King", the third in the film trilogy "Lord of the Rings" directed by Peter Jackson. The tickets were available for unlimited rail travel between Upper Hutt, Paraparaumu and Wellington between 12 noon on 1 December and 1 am on 2 December 2003. The $3 child ticket shows a head and shoulders frontal portrait of Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn. The $7 adult ticket shows Sam (Sean Astin) comforting Frodo (Elijah Wood). Quantity: 2 ticket booklets. Physical Description: Offset prints on ticket booklets, originally of around 100 tickets, each 82 x 34 mm. Provenance: Donated by Mr Bernie Harrison, Wellington, in 2007.

Description: Part of a surveyed, cadastral map of a subdivision in Linden, Tawa, showing Deposited Plan 9069 (transferred from 2054), named Tawa Extension no. 7. The subdivision runs between part of Old Porirua Road, Findlay and Handyside streets and the Wellington to Masterton railway, from Gee Street to Collins Ave. Includes road and section surveys, the latter numbered, with acreage. This copy includes only a part of the original map. It also shows part of a further segment, namely numbered surveyed sections 87 and 127-137, with acreage, bounded by the part of the railway and part of Collins Ave. Map includes notes regarding the subdivision and two signatures, a reference key regarding colour coding of roads (not visible on this copy), the number '56', and Certificate of Title numbers 170/24, 25. Also includes some pencil annotations on white section of map, indicating bearings. Includes part block numbers. Indicates part of the Porirua Stream. Other Titles - Tawa Flat (Linden) DP 2054 (transferred to DP 9069) see C[ertificate of] T[itle]'s 461/230 and 392/273. Includes blue ink annotation: L88 GB. Title from pencil annotation on map recto. Description: Views of New Zealand collected by Invercargill firm Erskine & Whitmore. Scenes taken by various photographers including Hart, Campbell & Co., and Coxhead & Le Sueur. Several views show Queenstown under floods in 1878; others of the Queenstown-Lakes Region, Waitati, Gore and Dunedin in the South Island. In the North Island, one shows a large picnic party travelling in three horse-drawn coaches, stopped at Ngauranga; many show a range of steam locomotives including J Class, K Class, F43, E22, H Class and A Class, in the Upper Hutt area, the Wairarapa, and on the Rimutaka line. Several at the end of the album show the effects of a major slip which blocked the mouth of the Summit Tunnel at the top of the Rimutaka Incline. Description: Photographs of New Zealand taken circa 1880s by various photographers including James Bragge and Josiah Martin. Photographs of the Manawatu Gorge were taken by James Bragge, some of which show the horse and carriage in which Bragge carried his equipment. There is one photograph of English explorer and adventurer Captain Speedy who spent many years in Abyssinia and other parts of Africa, and who came to New Zealand in 1864, where he fought with the Waikato Militia before returning overseas. He is shown wearing Abyssinian costume (p 15). Description: Cover shows an electric unit on a railway line, with the crest of the New Zealand Railways at the top. The title on the inside front page is: "Official change-over from steam to electric traction and introduction of multiple unit passenger trains. Inaugural ceremony at Wellington Station, 2.30 pm, Saturday, 2nd July 1938. Inside pages show photographs of the exterior and interior of the units, the auxiliary control compartment in the motor coach, the interior of the 1500-volt rectifier cubicle, telescopic handrails and flexible jumpers between carriages, the inerior of a carriage, a timetable of bus and rail services. There is also a history of the old Manawatu Line, a photograph of the new electric locomotive, nine of which were being built at the Hutt Valley Railway Workshops, photographs of the "Maahunui" and "Aotea" railcars, and a "K" class locomotive, and the 31-seater diesel bus that operated between Wellington and Johnsonville.
