Description: Views of the Botanic Garden, Wellington showing some of the notable early tree plantings of the 1870s and 1880s. Buildings on the Observatory Reserve, the nursery, and the mess rooms are recorded. There are views of specific parts of the garden such as Magpie Lawn and the Herb Garden. There are views of some of the well known vistas, and views of the garden from positions outside it such as Garden Road and Hill Street. Arrangement: Slides at PA12-1787 to PA12-1790 Those photographs dating from 1972 and 1973 were taken when Walter Cook worked in the Botanic Garden. Both rockery constructions were projects he worked on. The rest were taken as a result of his work on the history of the Botanic Garden with Winsome Shepherd. They were taken to illustrate talks on the history of the garden and the Wellington landscape. Quantity: 89 colour original transparency/ies.

Description: The project covers the history of the 100 hectare, publicly owned Orari-Wilton's Bush Reserve which celebrated the centenary of its inception as a botanical reserve as August 2006. The content of the interviews includes information about the history of the area, the development of the reserve, including design, rock gardens, the neglect after the Second World War, collection of plants, plant propagation and conservation, activities designed for public participation and enjoyment and the work by volunteers. Description: The microfilmed scientific papers and correspondence relating to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, contain four main series: Kew Collectors' correspondence and lists, 1800-1859; official correspondence with the Director, 1825-1928; diaries, maps, notes, correspondence and inward and outward letterbooks, 1793-1895; and miscellaneous reports, dispatches, parliamentary papers, and references to Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea and Fiji. Source of title - Transcribed Arrangement: Arranged into four series. The Kew botanic collection was started in the late seventeenth century by Lord Capel. From 1759 George III encouraged its development. The collections have been built through expeditions and the acquisition of the private collections of professional and amateur botonists.
