Robarts, Edward b 1771 : Narrative of a voyage to the South Seas

Description: Robarts, on a whaling trip from England, deserted at the Marquesas Islands where he lived for 9 years, married and piloted and provisioned visiting ships. In 1806 tribal wars led him to quit the islands. He stopped at Tahiti until Captain Dalrymple of the General Wellesley took him and his family on board. Visited the Bay of Islands where he met George Bruce who supplied the ship with spars and came with the ship when it left. At Calcutta, Robarts left the ship and lived in India from 1810, visiting Van Diemen's Land and Sydney. Description of the Marquesas (30 pages) and vocabulary of the Marquesan language (16 pages) complete the narrative. Source of title - Transcribed Quantity: 1 microfilm reel(s) (ca 190 pages).
