Description

French President Charles de Gaulle is astonished when he looks into a mirror to see a reflection of British PM Harold Wilson sticking out his tongue and tearing up 'agreements', 'tariffs', 'Multilateral Force' (MLF) proposal, 'political unions', 'NATO' etc. Refers to Britain's attempts to gain membership of the EEC which was blocked by de Gaulle in 1963 and again in 1967. They finally gained admission in 1973 after de Gaulle had fallen from power in 1969.

Above the cartoon is a rhyme written in pencil 'Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who is the unfairest one of all? Who says no, who says go. Creates discord, breaks concord. No, not you Charles de Gaulle, but Harold Wilson of Whitehall.' There are also pencil notes that read 'Scorns the MLF, leaves NATO guessing, keeps his force de ?, upsets Galt.'
