Recalls parents getting first radio in 1930. Talks about involvement with fire brigade and recalls fire at Hunterville Hospital, a hospital for backward children. Mentions Cyril Davies, Guy Anderson, Stan Tomkinson who ran Buchanan's store, Wattie Stewart, Noel lino and Bayleys Tomkins Hedges Tannery. Other topics covered include: marriage; World War Two; Depression and Tikey's Service Station. Refers to big changes in the motor industry and gives details of help from oil company to purchase Green Island Taxis and rental cars. Description: Contains Evelyn McLaughlin's collected materials relating to post offices and postal services, 1962 to 1986. Features commemorative and souvenir covers and special postmarks. These include the Ravensbourne Post Office Centenary (1 November 1978), the centenary of the first message transmitted through the Cook Straight Telegraph Cable (27 August 1966), the International Toy Fair in Christchurch (10 May 1971), the opening of the Haast Pass Scenic Highway (6 November 1965), first day change of name postmark for Kenakena Post Office, and the Whakatane National Stamp Exhibition, with postcards and envelopes featuring an illustration of the Wairaka story (19 April 1967). A photograph of the postmaster at Eureka is included with the commemorative cover for the Diamond Jubilee of the Eureka Post Office (1 April 1964). Special mail deliveries such as mail delivered by horse, train, and balloon are also included. Other material includes a note from Robin Startup, registered mail labels and receipts, a newspaper clipping of a photograph of the Pirinoa Post Office being moved to Paremata in 1972, and McLaughlin's research cards listing the dates post offices closed, post offices to close, and post offices to open. Some contact prints have been printed commercially by Wellington Photographic Supplies and Digital Imaging Service FDi. Buildings are photographed at locations including Ophir and surrounding area, Dunedin, Wellington Region, Mangaweka, and Tokaanu. There are also a number of photographs of Māori buildings (whare, [pūwhara?]), painted sculptures with text in te reo Māori [Wellington Region?], and, in Porirua, carved figures commemorating Te Rauparaha. People and events covered include Donna Cleveland and her children Max and Maddy and unidentified people at a Harley-Davidson motorbike event in Turangi. Manhole covers and graffiti on buildings, likely in Wellington [Cuba Street?], are another area of focus.
