Manuka Railway Station viewed from above a level crossing (just out of site below forground). In the foreground the rails cross a cattle stop before reaching the station. There are a few houses beside the road which runs in part parallel to the railway line. Photographed by Albert Percy Godber.

Cattle stops were standard features of level crossings to stop animals being driven over the crossing leaving the road and going down the railway line. A standard level crossing sign of the period is visible next to the cattle stop (information from Michael Gee, 2009).
