Description: Shows high cliffs taking up the height of the image, with two rowboats visible at the bottom. The "Crest" was wrecked between Akaroa North head and Flea Bay, on 27 October 1868, and this seems the most likely ketch to be the subject here. Description: 1. Akaroa Head. 2. Flat Point. 3. Cape Saunders. All are shown in plan and profile view, with contours and slope of the hill taken into account. Formerly attributed by the Library to Charles Heaphy, on the basis of their similarity to line lithographs by Heaphy of Maori pa, geographical and geological features located at B-043-015 and B-043-016. However Heaphy never visited the sites depicted on Blackett's views, nor was he involved in the locating of lighthouses. These lithographs were published in the Appendices to the Journals of the House of Representatives in 1875 as part of Blackett's report on lighthouses around New Zealand's shores Quantity: 3 b&w art print(s).
