Description: Photographer unidentified. Shows the crew of the ship Nimrod posing for a photograph during a garden party held at Te Hau o Te Atua (Breath of Heaven), the home of Shackleton's New Zealand agent Joseph Kinsey, on Clifton Hills. The party was given as a farewell to the members of Shackleton's expedition and ship's officers, on November 26th 1908. Title supplied by Library. Description: Album of photographs relating to Shackleton's British Antarctic Expedition between 1907 and 1909. All the photographs have full inscriptions, with people and places identified. (Names listed above). Two photographs of icebergs were taken at a different time (undated) by Captain Greenstreet when sailing the SS Rimutaka in the southern oceans (p 41). Photographs on pages 33-39 show the "at home" garden party at Te Hau o Te Atua (Breath of Heaven), the home of Shackleton's New Zealand agent Joseph Kinsey, on Clifton Hills. The party was given as a farewell to the members of Shackleton's expedition and ship's officers, on November 26th 1908. Photographs show both the group who ventured to Shackleton's "Farthest south" position, and also the group who went north to the magnetic pole. Towards the end of the album are a few stereoscopic photographs, some of which show the Nimrod while being towed by the Koonya. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s).
