Description

Contains CMS correspondence in Maori and English about Maori religious convictions and activities, brief minutes of a conference of missionaries, and further letters about Maori land tenure

Includes an invitation from King Mahuta to Sir John Gorst to visit Waikato dated 1906, and an account of the reasons why Hongi Hika and Waikato went to England in 1820, apparently written in the hand of Thomas Kendall (information from Phil Parkinson)

Also includes a draft Maori language reading primer prepared by Joseph Matthews, and a copy of the confession in Maori and English, in the hand of Rev Thomas Chapman (information from Phil Parkinson)
