A military tent in the right foreground by the banks of the Waikato River. The roof of another building can be seen below the bank closer to the river, with a further building atop a hill in the background. The river is shown fringed with trees and hills. Meremere was the site of a major battle in the Tauranga-Waikato campaign of the New Zealand wars.
