These are part of the series of notebooks sent by Pio to John White and Elsdon Best (the remainder are in folders 115-122). The notebooks include whakapapa from the beginnings of time; the origins of man; arrival of the Maori in New Zealand; H Pio whakapapa and various lines of descent; tribal history and accounts of battles, legends, songs and chants. Some correspondence is included.
There are also notes about the Maori division of time and related astronomical features, notes about the fetching of the kumara from Hawaiki, karakia and whakatauki, notes about tribal conflicts in the Bay of Plenty and information about various omens of good luck and misfortune.
