Excursion group, probably members of the Beere family, on the shore of Motutapu Island, Waitemata Harbour. Photograph taken, probably in the late 1880s, by Daniel Manders Beere. The caption in the photographer's negative log describes the group as "naturalists at work".
Identified as "Digging of 1st sod M.T. Railway at Te Awamutu." from typescript of photographer's negative register held at TL 6/1/62.
Further information about this occasion is held at the Appendix to the jounals of the House of Representatives, 1885, D-6.
