- Description
The patu was discovered by R Gettins washed up on the shore of Lake Horowhenua in 1931 and led to the discovery of further artifacts on the bed of the lake. This photograph featured as Plate 5 in Adkin's book "Horowhenua", published in 1948; text on pages 91-92 discusses its discovery and significance.
The patu was photographed by Adkin.
George Leslie Adkin was a Wellington farmer, geologist, archaeologist, ethnologist and photographer.
