- Description
Diary of a voyage from New Zealand to England on the `Rangitiki'; lively account of shipboard life through the eyes of a 15-year-old; provides little detailed family information. Diary begins on 27 March 1877 as the ship sails through the Pacific ocean, ends 4th June 1877 as the `Rangitiki' is towed in to dock at Gravesend. Includes poems, sea shanties (including "Paddy works on the railway", "Blow, boys, blow", "The yarn of the Nancy Bell" and "Now Tom is gone, what shall I do?"). Also small ink sketches and some doodling throughout the text.
The inside back cover comprises drawings and a list of the crew and passengers.
