- Description
The first huts, houses and tents of Adelaide as organised settlement began. People, horses and a carriage can also be seen. The constructions are on a flat area, backed by trees, with hills in the distance.
Source: distant provenance unknown. Possibly originally published as a book illustration. A similar lithograph, apparently from the same source, artist unknown 'View of Encounter Bay with the fisheries' is located at A-096-047 On acquisition by the Library, both this work and A-096-047, along with A-096-045 and A-096-046 were attached to the verso of A-096-044-a
A larger aquatint of the same scene, published by Smith Elder, 1838, is widely held in Australian libraries and museums. A similar oil, reference number DG 157 is in the State Library of New South Wales
