Harrison Grierson Consultants Ltd

New Zealand engineering, surveying and planning consultancy. John William Harrison, surveyor and architect set up the firm in Auckland in 1885. In 1912 he was joined by Charles Kilpatrick Grierson in partnership and the firm has continued to exist since that time.

Description: Photographs of topographical plans in Waikato Region, from Lake Taupo to Putaruru. Images include forestry and land blocks, a reference layout plan of where the planting blocks are situated, photographs of the land (with some areas already in young pines), a railway route design, a site plan of the proposed town at Tokoroa with two mills and a schedule of plantings as had already been made between 1924-1932. Also includes three photographs of display boards, each with eight photographs and captions. The glass negatives were produced in the 1930s by Harrison and Grierson and Paxton who were engaged by Perpetual Forests Ltd (later NZ Forest Products Ltd) to prepare topographic surveys for areas from Lake Taupo to Putaruru. Most of the images show plans of areas that Perpetual Forests appears to have been acquiring from 'The Australasian Forestry Bondholders Trust Company Ltd', along with some Crown land. Description: Cadastral map showing an area of land between an unamed road (now called The Strand), and Selwyn Terrace, and from the junction of Mechanics Road (now Selwyn Terrace) and Manukau Road on the left side of the map, to Kings Drive, on the right side of the map, in the suburb of Mechanic's Bay, Auckland. The land shown between the roads, The Strand and Selwyn Terrace, is divided into land blocks numbered from 1 to 16, and contains survey measurements, including width and length of each block and the number of perches per block. Survey measurements are given along the length of Selwyn Terrace and some are provided in The Strand. Additional information identifies areas that are not fenced, areas with new palling fences, the location of the original high water mark, Marston and Fox Streets and an area containing the name S Parker Railway Dept. Blk. VIII. Rangitoto S.D. is written above the new road area, now The Strand. Measurements relating to the area of land already under the Land Tranfer Act and land to be brought under the Act is written on the right side of the map. The words, City of Auckland, is written further down the map and near it, is the stamped signature of "Chas. K. Grierson Lic.d Surveyor". At the botton right hand corner of the map is the number 10790, written in pencil, the letters OM, written in pencil and the number 4611, written in blue ink. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s).
