Description

Advertorial poster showing a lithograph of a view of Invercargill, with a river going through the centre, and horses and carriages in the streets. Around the borders are inset pictures of some of the town's man buildings, including: Fleming & Gilkison (millers & grain merchants), Southland Times, Sloan Brothers City Boot Palace, Vicenzo Almao (hatter), St Paul's Presbyterian Church, D McFarlane (bakery and McFarlane's Coffee Palace), R W Jones Machinery and Cycling Exchange, H Carswell & Co (auctioneers), C H Macalister (chemist), Wesney brothers gift shop, Frank A Steans (importer of fishing tackle), J Manson & Co (importers of furniture and ironmongers), David Strang coffee and spice merchant, John H Kissell (saddler & harness maker), Turner & Colbran (tailors and clothiers), C J Deschler's Hotel, Alex Ferguson (watchmaker and jeweller), the Hospital, St Mary's Roman Catholic Church. There is also an inset view of Bluff harbour and town, about 15 miles from Invercargill.

Lower centre has a panel listing the ships in the Union Line, and their tonnage and captains: Ruahine, Kaikoura, Rimutaka, Tongariro, Aorangi and Ruapehu. At top left is an advertisement for the agent, Wellesley A Parker of the Palace Hotel Melbourne.
