Mariner, hotel proprietor, coach proprietor. Born in Scotland, married Janet McLaurin in Sydney in 1838. Lived in Wellington and Napier. He opened Napier's first hotel, the Royal, about 1852. Close to the hotel, on the banks of the Tutaekuri River, was what was known as Munn's landing, at which goods were landed from whaleboats and other small craft, from sailing ships anchored in the Napier roadstead. About 1859 Munn retired to live on his Mount Erin station (land was purchased in 1853).
