Shows the old Christchurch Boys' High School building from the east, Worcester Street, fronted by silver birches. The building was the School of Fine Art at about the time Matthews drew it, and was later the University of Canterbury, now the Christchurch Arts Centre
Dating based on dates assigned to other etchings of buildings, in similar style.
According to a survey of a small sample of Matthews' work, it appears that works done in the 1930s were mainly lithographs. Some early etchings of institutional buildings are dated at around the 1910s.
