Shows Batten lying on a bunk bed in a cabin at the 1950 British Empire Games village at Ardmore, having his back massaged. Photograph taken circa 1 February 1950 by an Evening Post photographer.
Caption - Tired muscles rarely fail to respond to the educated fingers of Jackson Connel (Dunedin) and Jim Meek (Rotorua) who have been giving massage service of something like 12 hours daily to athletes at Ardmore. The athlete is David Batten, national furlong and 1/4-mile champion.
