Original Evening Post caption reads: "Derelict and sealed off by a temporary iron fence, this gaping hole in front of the Hannahs building in the next street was formerly occupied by the Masonic Hotel, in Cuba Mall. It is to be filled with a two-storey commercial building owned by Cuba House Ltd and built by F L Jeffries. To the right is the Wellington Workingmens' Club, which is being strengthened and furnished with a new wall." The bucket fountain can be seen to the right.
