Ships `Port Auckland' and 'Orari' at Port Chalmers, photographed probably by Catherine Euphemia Matheson who took over the David Alexander De Maus studio about 1932.

Inscriptions: Marginal notes on negative - top left - Port Auckland. Orara [i.e. Orari]

The Port Auckland is a twin screw motor vessel of 11945 tons, was built in 1949 by Messrs Hawthorne, Leslie & Co., of Newcastle-on-Tyne, for the Port Line. See Ships with New Zealand Associations (Vol 6, p 97, 99). The Orari is also a twin screw motor vessel, of 10153 tons, built in 1931 for the Union Steam Ship Co. See Ships with New Zealand Associations (Vol 3)
