Description

Carved wooden Maori cenotaph at Te Koura, in memory of those who died in influenza epidemic. Photographed in 1920 by Albert Percy Godber.

The following statement in square brackets is incorrect, as Godber had the correct information in his album (Vol 109, p 137 with this image; not p 163, which shows the Waimiha Cenotaph). [This image is stated as being a memorial to Maori soldiers at Waimiha in Godber album (Vol 109, p 163) at Pa1-q-102. However, a letter from C&S Publications, The Memory Bank, Miriana St., Taumarunui, points out that this is an error, and in fact the cenotaph is the one located at Te Koura Marae].
