A small cottage perched on a bank, with trees behind and a view up Wellington Harbour towards the Hutt Valley.
Shows one of the first European houses built in Wellington. Dr Henry Taylor arrived aboard the "Success" in Wellington with J. C. Crawford in December 1839. Tiakiwai was named for Tiakiwai Pa, a cluster of Maori houses at the northern end of Thorndon, close to the beach below modern Stowe Hill and the north end of Tinakori Road.
