Photograph shows Raorikia with hills rising behind the village. In the centre of the view is "Kemps Pole", a boundary marker set up by Te Rangihiwinui Kepa (Major Kemp) to show the boundary of a trust area which he wanted to have reserved for the Maori people. A fenced vegetable garden occupies the foreground of the photograph. Photographed in the 1880s by William James Harding
